There are a few parables that Jesus tells the Pharisees in Luke 14. All of them have something in common - they all have an element of surrenderring something to become victorious: our doctrinal view of God's word, our pride, our idea of reciprical quid pro quo, our material posessions, business professions, family oblications, our family relationships when they interfere with our spiritual lives, and even our lives themselves.
